OBSERVER QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
Applicants must meet the following mandatory requirements in order to be considered for the position:
Education – must have successfully completed Grade 12 or equivalent
Language – be proficient in English (written and spoken)
Citizenship – must be a Canadian citizen or have a Landed immigrant status
Security – must be able to pass a government security check to the “Enhanced Reliability” level
Other General Skills & Qualifications
Fisheries Observers deployed to commercial fishing vessels are in a position of responsibility and must possess the following general skills and qualifications:
Mature, responsible and capable of working independently
Good health and physical condition
Ability to interact with others in a professional manner
Mobility and availability
Responsive and reliable on short notice
Not prone to motion sickness (seasickness)
Ability to complete technical written reports and complete data forms
Desirable Qualifications (Preferred but not required)
While the following are not required for the position, we encourage applications from people with any of the following skills & backgrounds:
Experience with the commercial fishing industry
Sea experience
Field data collection
Additional education
